Learning Assistance Programs (LAP)
LAP is a program that builds bridges between the school and the community,
between the volunteer and student, in a way that links and supports all
parties.
It is a scheme that brings together students, volunteers and teaching
staff as partners in students learning. LAP volunteers work with
students on a one-to-one basis for one session a week, devising with the
coordinator and student, a plan of activities tailored to that students
particular needs.
The success of the program is based on five simple principles. These are
that LAP:
is always one-to-one;
is about relationships;
builds confidence and self-esteem;
takes a creative approach to learning;
promotes parent and community participation in schools.
